Between the client and the work, there's you.

Account management is the communications job nobody calls by that name. You understand the client more intimately than anyone in the building, you translate them to the creative team and the work back to them, and you absorb the pressure flowing in both directions. Coaching and mentoring for agency people, from someone who's done the job on both sides of the table and is still in the industry now.

The agency runs on you, and it costs you.

The pitch you lose after three weekends of work. The client crisis that lands at 5:45 on a Friday. The creative team who think you're the client's person and the client who thinks you're the agency's. You hold the relationship, the budget, the timeline and the mood, and you do it so well that nobody notices it's a skill.

Then there's the fork every agency person eventually reaches: push for agency leadership, jump client side, or admit the whole thing might not fit anymore. Those are big questions to be carrying around between status meetings, and most people carry them alone.

Paul Pilbeam, coach for agency professionals, founder of Between Better

I've sat in your chair. I've also been your client.

More than twenty years in communications, agency and client side, across sales, creative, account management and leadership, and I'm still doing the job now. I know the rhythm of agency life from the inside, and because I've been the client too, I know what they're actually thinking when they go quiet on an email.

You won't need to explain how a retainer works or why the timesheet system is a work of fiction. We can get straight to the real conversation, which is about you and where you're heading.

Coaching or mentoring. Usually both.

Coaching

Your thinking, your career, your calls. I ask the questions, you find the answers, and they're better answers because they're yours.

Mentoring

When you want my experience rather than just my questions. The client-side move, the leadership step, the account you can't crack. Offered when asked, never imposed.

No frameworks, no forms. Just a conversation.

We start by getting to know each other. From there we agree an overarching goal, then keep each session anchored in whatever feels most pressing on the day. What's live right now almost always feeds the bigger picture, and my job is to help you see how.

Founding client rate
£45 per session

While I complete my ICF accreditation hours, sessions are £45. You get committed, properly trained coaching at a rate that reflects where I am on that journey. It won't stay at this level, but if you start with me now, we'll agree your rate together before anything changes.

Your first conversation is free. A full hour, online or in person, to see whether we're a fit. No pitch and no pressure.

I'm an account manager, not a "communications person". Is this for me?

You're the most client-fluent communicator in the building. That's the job, even when nobody names it that way. So yes.

I'm creative side rather than account side. Still relevant?

Yes. The pressures differ but the terrain is the same, and I've worked the creative side of the fence too.

I'm thinking about moving client side. Can we work on that?

We can, and it's one of the conversations I'm best placed for, having made the move myself and seen it from both ends.

Can my agency pay for this?

Yes, I can invoice the agency directly, and coaching often fits a learning and development budget. Worth asking; plenty of MDs say yes.

How much does it cost?

£45 a session at my founding client rate while I complete my ICF accreditation hours. Your first session is a free one-hour introduction, online or in person.

Where are you based, and do you coach online?

Guildford and Central London in person, online worldwide over Google Meet.

Do you offer evening sessions?

Yes. Daytime and evening both work, online or in person, because agency hours are what they are.

What happens in the free introduction?

An hour, online or in person. You talk, I listen, and we see if it clicks. If it doesn't, no hard feelings. I'll point you somewhere useful if I can.

An hour that's actually about you.

One free hour, no pitch and no pressure, to find out whether this is what you've been looking for.
